(Eagle News)~The Department of Foreign Affairs has extended its condolences to the kin of an Overseas Filipino Worker who was killed while defending two women who were being harassed in Slovakia.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of our kababayan Henry John Acorda,” Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano said in a statement.
“We mourn the loss of another of our own who by all accounts is a hero who came to the rescue of the defenseless in a land that is not even his,” he added.
According to the Philippine Embassy, Acorda, 36, died in the University Hospital Ruźjnov from injuries sustained during the incident in Bratislava, on Saturday, May 26.
One suspect has so far been arrested.
“We give our assurance to Henry’s family that we will do everything to make sure that those responsible for his death are brought to justice,” Cayetano said.
He said the embassy was also facilitating the repatriation of Acorda’s remains, and was coordinating with Acorda’s mother, brother, and sister, who flew to Slovakia following the incident.
