MANILA – Foreign Affairs Secretary Perfecto R. Yasay, Jr. received the Secretary General of ASEAN Le Luong Minh on December 13, on the occasion of the working visit of the ASEAN Secretary General to Manila from December 12 to 15.
Secretary Yasay and Secretary General Le Luong Minh discussed preparations for the Philippine chairmanship of ASEAN in 2017, which will officially begin on January 01.
The Secretary General’s visit follows ASEAN tradition where the ASEAN Secretary General and his team conduct a working visit to the incoming Chair of ASEAN so that preparations can begin prior to the start of the Chairmanship.
Accompanying the Secretary General are the Deputy Secretaries General (DSG) of the three community pillars of ASEAN – Political-security (APSC), economic (AEC) and socio-cultural (ASCC) and their respective teams.
The three DSGs conducted consultations with their Philippine counterparts to discuss the priorities, activities, and proposed deliverables for the Philippine chairmanship.
Relevant Philippine government agencies participated in the consultations shepherded by the Department of Foreign Affairs for APSC, the Department of Trade and Industry for AEC, and the Department of Social Welfare and Development for the ASCC. (DFA)
