(Eagle News)—The Philippine Consulate General is still checking whether there were any Filipino casualties after a man rammed his vehicle at pedestrians in Toronto.

In a radio interview, Foreign Affairs spokesperson Elmer Cato said the consulate was coordinating with the Filipino community as the authorities there no longer release the names of those hurt or killed in such incidents.

“…Kung meron pong mga kababayan natin na kasama sa casualties, ay sabihan po yung consulate kaagad para ho kami makapag-expend ng tulong kung kinakailangan,” he said.

A man plowed a white rental van into a crowd of pedestrians in Toronto on Monday, killing at least nine people and wounding 16, police said.

The incident took place in broad daylight around 10 miles (16 kilometers) from a conference center hosting a meeting of G7 ministers, but officials said they had no evidence of a link to the event.

The suspect, Alek Minassian, is in police custody.
