DIGITAL NEST Leisure: New York Times Travel Show

DIGITAL NEST | New York

If you love food, traveling, and all the adventures in between, the New York Times Travel Show was definitely the place to be.  Hosted at the Jacob K. Javits Center during the weekend of January 28th, only a few minutes from the last stop on the Manhattan-bound 7 train, thousands of people who shared the common love and interest in traveling attended this event.  It was such a perfect event to go to when planning future vacations and getaways in 2017.

The three-day travel show provided a bookstore filled with various travel books, along with a lineup of authors who made appearances for book signings.  Five cultural stages presented performances throughout the whole weekend.  Several seminars such as “Picturing Your Vacation” and “Global Travel Tips for Women” were open for attendees to listen in on.  And for the first time, the show featured the brand new “Family Travel” pavilion, which highlighted family-friendly destinations, tips, and interactive activities for the children to take part in as well.

With over five hundred booths, you can explore over one hundred countries and have a conversation with any travel consultant available.  Without a doubt, I was able to get a few quotes.  Here are some:

“As a destination, the dollar’s very strong in Africa. South Africa is one of those destination that you should do because it’s packed with wildlife, known for its diversity.  If you’re a foodie and want your dollar to go a long way, South Africa is the best place to go,” says Deon Barnard, one of the chief operating officers of Go Touch Down for South Africa.

“Peru is very well known for our culture, our tradition, and our history.  Our top attraction is Machu Picchu, and there you can do so many adventure things like the Inca Trail that’s four days and three nights, so you can get into the environment and jungles and see all of the flora that we have. You can join us for our famous flavors and food that we have; we are very well known for our gastronomic foods,” Cristel of Inka Rainbow Travel Service shares.

It is definitely worth going to at least one day of this travel show. Who knew it was so easy to be able to get away and forget that you were even in New York after talking to the exhibitors?  My favorite part? The awesome photo ops that you can get from the unique booths, and of course, the food samples.  Until next year!
