(Eagle News) — The Department of the Interior and Local Government on Monday, April 30, formally filed charges against barangay officials who allegedly failed to set up the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council in their areas of jurisdiction, as required by the law.
Interior Undersecretary Martin Diño and Assistant Secretary Ricojudge Janver Echiverri filed the administrative complaints before the Ombudsman against the chairs of Barangays 471, 477, 482, 659-A, and 690 in Manila.
The filing came on the same day the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency released the list of barangay officials allegedly engaged in illegal drug activities, and weeks before the Sangguniang Kabataan and barangay elections that will be held on May 14.
According to the DILG, other barangay officials would be charged on Friday, May 4.
