(Eagle News) — Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Mar Roxas submitted his resignation letter on Monday afternoon, August 3, after he bid farewell to the Philippine National Police and the DILG personnel.
Roxas accepted President Aquino’s endorsement last Friday as the standard-bearer of the Liberal Party for the 2016 presidential elections.
He attended the traditional flag raising ceremony in Camp Crame to personally say farewell to the uniformed and non-uniformed personnel of the PNP.
He then went to the DILG and the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) to bid the employees a tearful farewell.
In the middle of the program where employees sang a farewell song, Roxas became tearful and a bit emotional.
Roxas served as DILG secretary for three years.
After this, he formally submitted his letter of resignation to President Aquino.
Roxas said he still has no idea who President Aquino will appoint to replace him as DILG head.
President Aquino on the same day said he would have wanted Roxas to stay a bit longer as the DILG chief to complete what he said was unfinished work in the department including the upgrading of the PNP equipment and the resettlement of informal settlers.
