(Eagle News)– The Department of Health has recorded over 100 firecracker-related injuries and a stray bullet case during the New Year revelry.
Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said the 191 firecracker-related injuries and stray bullet case were recorded from Dec. 21, 2017 to Jan. 1, 2018.
“We are relatively pleased, relative because there are still injuries, but pleased because the substantial reduction or decrease in fireworks related injuries,” he said.
He said the figure was 68 percent lower compared to the same period last year.
The National Capital Region recorded the most number of fireworks-related injuries, with 115 cases.
Over 60—63 of the 115 cases—were recorded in Manila.
Fourteen were recorded in Quezon City, 11 in Pasig City, and six in Valenzuela.
Western Visayas was runner-up to the NCR with 15 cases, and Central Luzon, Calabarzon and Bicol with 13 cases each.
Piccolo was the primary cause of firecracker-related injuries, with 94 cases.
This was followed by kwitis with 14 cases.
The youngest firecrackers victim was an 11-month-old baby and the oldest was 96 years old.
