(Eagle News) — The number of fireworks-related injuries in the run-up to the New Year has reached 42.
In a television interview on Thursday, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said the figure–which is far lower than the figure recorded during the same period in 2016—was as of 6 a.m. on Wednesday.
He said the drop has to do with the recent Executive Order No. 28 issued by President Rodrigo Duterte.
The order regulates the use of fireworks and other pyrotechnic devices.
Public fireworks display zones have been designated in selected cities in Metro Manila, with some opting to implement a total ban.
In southern Metro Manila, for instance, a total ban on fireworks is being implemented in Paranaque, Las Pinas,, Muntinlupa, Taguig and Pateros.
