DOH warns against fatty, sweet and salty this season

“Eating too much fatty, sweet and salty foods is dangerous to your health,’ so said the Department of Health (DOH) region 2 to caution the public during the New Year’s eve celebration.

Regional director Jesus Valeriano Lopez said it is already embedded in the psyche of Filipinos a culture and tradition of extravagant spending particularly on food, at times, disregarding proper diet.

He said eating these kinds of foods prepared for ‘media noche’ should be in moderation, especially those diagnosed with hypertension, diabetes, heart failure and other complications that maybe triggered as a result.

DOH records show that it is during the holiday season that cases of hypertension increases as against during ordinary period of the year.

He further advised public to balance their food with vegetable and fruits  when fatty, salty and sweet food are taken in excess. (ALM/OTB/PIA-Cagayan)
