(Eagle News) — The Department of Justice has refiled the drug importation case filed against nine individuals implicated in the P6.4-billion shabu shipment mess.
This time, the case against Chen Julong alias Richard Tan or Richard Chen; Li Guang Feng alias Manny Li; Dong Yi Shen Xi alias Kenneth Dong Yi; Mark Ruben Taguba II; Eirene Mae Tatad; Teejay Marcellana; Chen I-Min; Jhu Ming Jyun; and Chen Rong Huan was filed in the Manila Regional Trial Court.
The re-filing was done after Valenzuela Regional Trial Branch 171 Judge Maria Nena Santos, who first handled the case, dismissed it, citing a lack of jurisdiction.
She noted that the crime did not take place within her area of jurisdiction as the crates containing the shabu arrived at the Manila International Container Port in May first.
Prosecutors had argued the crime took place in Valenzuela as the drugs were only discovered in a Valenzuela warehouse.
The DOJ appealed the Valenzuela court’s decision, but the appeal was rejected on Tuesday. With a report from Moira Encina, Eagle News Service
