QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News) — The Department of Justice (DOJ) will ask the Supreme Court to create special courts to hear cases faced by members of the Maute Group.
Based on records of the DOJ, 89 members of the Maute Group face cases of kidnapping, and kidnapping with murder in the Malabang Regional Trial Court in Lanao Del Sur, while an additional four face charges of illegal possession of improvised incendiary devices.
Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre said that he was able to talk to several prosecutors in Mindanao, who expressed fear and worry in taking charge of subsequent criminal cases of the members of the Maute group.
