(Eagle News)– Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II on Monday (June 5) ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to carry out a DNA examination on the remains of Jessie Javier Carlos, the gunman in the Resorts World Manila attack.
According to Aguirre, he made the decision in order to erase doubts on the identity of Carlos.
The police earlier alleged the gunman was a Caucasian who appeared to stand six-foot tall.
However, officials identified Carlos as the perpetrator of the June 2 attack on Sunday.
Carlos is a former Department of Finance (DOF) employee who had serious financial problems due to gambling.
Thirty-seven guests and employees of the casino-hotel died in the incident, mostly due to suffocation.
Aguirre has ordered the NBI to conduct a parallel probe aimed at determining the possible criminal, civil, or administrative culpability of any agency or office of the government, or owners, managers, and employees of Resorts World Manila.
