DOLE announces total ban on deployment of Filipino workers to Libya

(Eagle News)–The Department of Labor and Employment has announced a total deployment ban of Filipino workers to Libya.

In a statement, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said the ban was upon the recommendation of the Department of Foreign Affairs amid the ongoing fighting between factions there.

Earlier, the DFA raised an alert level 3 in Libya, and  urged a voluntary repatriation of Filipinos in Tripoli and  nearby areas.

Bello said the ban, which was also pursuant to a resolution issued by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, would be lifted “when the situation normalizes or until further advice by the DFA.”

“DOLE is ready to provide repatriation assistance to our Filipino workers who will signify interest to come home,” Bello said, adding that an  augmentation team would be dispatched this week.

“Also, we are prepared for any exigency of forced repatriation if the situation deteriorates,” Bello added.
