(Eagle News) — The Department of Labor and Employment on Monday, May 28, released its list of Top 20 labor-only contracting companies.
According to DOLE, Jollibee Foods Corporation (JFC) had the most contractual employees, with 14,990 workers.
It was followed by Dole Philippines, Inc., with 10,521 workers; the Philippine Long Distance Telephone with 8,310 workers; Philsaga Mining Corporation, with 6,524; and General Tuna Corporation, with 5,216 workers,
Sumi Philippines Wiring Systems Corporation was next on the list, with 4,305 workers; Franklin Baker Inc. with 3,400; Pilipinas Kyohritsu, Inc. with 3,161; Furukawa Automotive Systems Phil., Inc, with 2,863; and Magnolia Inc., with 2284.
KCC Property Holdings, Inc. was next on the list, with 1802 workers.
It was followed by Sumifru Philippines, Corp., with 1,687 workers; Hinatuan Mining Corporation with 1,673 workers; KCC Mall de Zamboanga, with 1,598 workers; Brother Industries (Philippines) Inc., with 1,582 workers; Philippine Airlines & PAL Express, with 1,483 workers; Nidec Precision Philippines Corporation, with 1,400 workers; Peter Paul Phil. Corporation, with 1,362 workers; and Dolefill Upper Valley Operations, with 1,183.
DOLE-Stanfilco was last on the list, with 1,131 workers.
According to DOLE, labor-only contracting exists “when the contractor merely recruits, supplies or places workers to perform a job or work for a principal” if “the contractor does not have substantial capital…and the contractor’s recruited and placed are performing activities which are directly related to the main business operation of the principal” or the contractor “does not exercise the right to control over the performance of the work of the employee.”
DOLE said that nationwide, 224852 workers were affected by labor-only contracting.
