(Eagle News) – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has reminded employers to strictly observe “pay rules” for workers for the May 14 special non-working holiday.
The reminder was contained in Labor Advisory No. 8 Series of 2018 issued by DOLE Undersecretary Ciriaco Lagunzad.
If an employee did not work, the “no work, no pay” principle shall apply unless there is a company policy granting payment on a special day, DOLE said.
If working during the special holiday, the workers shall be paid an additional 30 percent of their daily rate on the first eight hours of work.
If work is done in excess of eight hours (overtime work), the workers will be paid an additional 30 percent of their hourly rate on said day, the labor department said.
If, on the other hand, work is done during a special day that also falls on the workers’ rest day, they shall be paid an additional 50 percent of their daily rate on the first eight hours of work.
If overtime work is done during a special day that also falls on the workers’ rest day, they shall be paid an additional 30 percent of their hourly rate on said day.
President Rodrigo Duterte declared Monday, May 14, a special non-working holiday to allow Filipinos to vote in the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections slated on the day.
