DOTr: Wearing of face masks remains mandatory in MRT, LRT, PNR trains

(Eagle News)–The Department of Transportation on Sunday, April 23, reiterated the mask mandate will continue to be strictly enforced in specific places in the Light Rail Transit, Metro Rail Transit, and the Philippine National Railways amid the rising COVID-19 cases.

Transportation Assistant Secretary for Railways Jorjette B. Aquino said
the policy will be strictly enforced in all of the country’s railway trains as a preventive measure.

“Our medical professionals in the railways sector stressed that the risk of COVID-19 transmission remains present in our trains as they are enclosed spaces,” Aquino said.

Aquino said the same policy strictly applies in MRT-3, LRT-1, and LRT-2 stations.

The policy, however, is optional in PNR stations as they are mainly open spaces, Aquino said.

Aquino urged the riding public to remain vigilant.

“Even if you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, you can still become infected and potentially spread the virus to others,” he said.

Earlier, the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases raised a COVID-19 Alert Level 2  over Benguet and 25 other areas.
