(Eagle News)–The Department of Public Works and Highways has inaugurated a new road in Camp Aguinaldo and named it after the first fallen soldier in the Marawi siege.
The 435-meter linear concrete roadway in the Army headquarters in Taguig was named JC Morales Ave. on Friday, March 29, to honor First Lieutenant John Carl Morales.
Morales was the company commander of the 49th infantry who led his men in a six-hour firefight with Maute terrorists on May 23, 2017.
This led to the killing of eight terrorists and the recovery of rebel assets.
“We hope that as we improve traffic im Camp Aguinaldo with this new road, we will likewise spread the heroism of First Lieutenant Morales and the rest of the fallen soldiers who sacrificed their lives fighting for the people of Marawi City,” Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar said.
The DPWH had allocated P50 million for the road, which has 36-inch-diameter manholes each and a 1.2-meter sidewalk on both sides.
