DPWH warns motorist on road works along Manila-La Union, Ilocos

MANILA, Mar. 24 – The Department of Public Works and Highways has advised that on-going road works along Manila North Road in La Union and Ilocos Sur may slowdown the travel to the Ilocos and Cordillera Provinces.

District Engineer Ray Organo of DPWH Ilocos Sur 1st District Engineering Office reported that four (4) bridges along Manila North Road are undergoing construction.

Bridge projects expected to hamper travel along Manila North Road include Teppeng Bridge in Sinait, Cabugao Bridge in Cabugao, San Juan and Bical Bridges in San Juan, all in Ilocos Sur.

However, Engineer Organo said that bailey bridges have been constructed as detour for crossing vehicles.

In La Union, District Engineer Aquilino Nicer reported the following on-going road and bridge projects:  Saytan Bridge, Rosario; Principe Bridge, Agoo;  Sta Rita and Aringay Town Proper, Aringay; Caba Town Proper; Magsaoang and Lossoc Bridges and Payocpoc, Bauang.

Earlier, Secretary Rogelio L. Singson has instructed field units to order contractors working on road projects to clear the national highways of barriers, including equipment, in anticipation of Filipinos flocking to the provinces.

DPWH field units have also been instructed to “conduct road check including the installation of directional signs, resealing of damaged pavements, and application of thermoplastic pavement markings before the Holy Week. (DPWH)
