QUEZON CITY, Philippines (Eagle News) –The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said that the department had already spent Php 17.1 million as cost of assistance for the Mayon Volcano evacuees in the form of food packs and hygiene/dignity kits, non-food items and toys given to children.
DSWD Bicol Director Arnel Garcia said there is still a stand-by supply of Php 18 million-worth of food packs that could be used for the evacuees. And even if there will be an extension in the stay of the evacuees, Garcia said this wouldn’t be a problem as they are expecting another Php 206 million worth of food packs.
In the latest report, the number of fleeing evacuees due to the eruption of Mount Mayon reached more than 16,000 families or more than 66,000 individuals.
The total number of affected residents around Mayon volcano have reached 83,533 persons or 21,733 families, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC)
