QUEZON CITY, June 23 — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in the Bicol Region has prepositioned, as of June 17, some 5,000 family food packs to the Provincial Government of Sorsogon to augment its relief resources for families affected by the eruption of Mt. Bulusan.
At the same time, DSWD also prepositioned 300 family food packs each to the towns of Irosin, Casiguran, and Juban, Sorsogon which are the most affected by the eruption.
Each food pack consisted of six kilos of rice, four cans of sardines, four cans of corned beef, six packs of noodles, and cereal drinks.
Of the 300 family food packs prepositioned in each town, some 150 packs and 600 pieces of bottled water have been distributed to the affected families in Irosin while 61 packs have been given to families in Juban.
The Department also distributed 300 dust masks to individuals from the six barangays in Juban where an ash fall was recorded.
To date, a total of 6,884 families or 34,280 individuals have been affected by the incident. As of press time, no report on evacuation has been received by the Department.
DSWD Secretary Corazon Juliano-Soliman assured the public that DSWD has adequate stockpile of commodities and standby funds for relief operations in case the eruption continues and escalates.
Sec. Soliman also instructed the members of the DSWD-Field Office V Quick Response Team to remain on alert status and to continue to monitor the incident to ensure that response will be provided immediately. (DSWD)
