The Duchess of Cambridge hosted a gala dinner at her London home on Thursday (June 9) to celebrate the 40th anniversary of SportsAid.
At Kensington Palace, she welcomed former Olympians and Paralympians, as well as young athletes due to compete in the upcoming Games in Rio.
SportsAid gives financial support to athletes in the early stages of their careers. Some of those who have benefited from that support, and are now ambassadors for the charity, were also at the Kensington Palace event, including Olympic silver medallist, Sharron Davies.
The charity says that almost two-thirds of the British team at London 2012 were former or current recipients of SportsAid’s support, winning 20 Olympic and 27 Paralympic gold medals between them.
The Duchess of Cambridge, who herself is a keen sportswoman, has been a SportsAid patron since 2013.
