(Eagle News)—President Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday, Feb. 24, said he did not favor the deportation of Chinese workers in the country.
“Yung mga Chinese dito, hayaan mo ‘yan na dito magtrabaho. Hayaan mo,” he said in a speech during a PDP-Laban event in Laguna.
According to Duterte, this was because there were “300,000 Filipinos in China.”
“Eh kung umalis ‘yung [300,000] of them?” he asked.
Some senators want a crackdown on Chinese illegal workers, with the Senate committee on labor, employment and human resources led by Senator Joel Villanueva conducting hearings on the same.
Senator Grace Poe has decried what she said were reports she received reports that the Chinese were also doing construction work, something Filipinos can also do.
