TAGUM CITY, Davao del Norte, August 30 (PIA) – – President Rodrigo R. Duterte supports the postponement of Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections set on October 31, 2016.

Speaking during the 10th founding anniversary celebration of the Eastern Mindanao Command (EMC) on Friday in Davao City, President Duterte stressed that coming elections is vulnerable for the infiltration of drug money.

“Do you know the reason why I also agreed with some congressmen to postpone the barangay elections? Do you know why? Because I am afraid that the drug money will seep into the electoral process,” President Duterte stressed.

Following the declaration of support of the President, the Commission on Election (COMELEC) suspended the printing of ballots for the elections.   The COMELEC started the printing of the 85 million ballots for the Barangay Election on August 21; while SK election ballots will start on September 1.
