(Eagle News)–President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday, May 16, said he wanted a person who is known for his or her integrity as the next Chief Justice.
“Of course it could not be a politician, lalo na hindi babae,” Duterte said.
Duterte made the comment after Maria Lourdes Sereno’s appointment as Chief Justice was nullified by the Supreme Court, with a vote of 8-6.
The decision stems from a quo warranto petition filed by Solicitor General Jose Calida, in which he alleged Sereno was not qualified to apply for the post in the first place due to questions of integrity.
Calida said Sereno, among others, failed to file her complete Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth.
