Duterte defends Michael Yang anew

(Eagle News)—President Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday, April 6, defended Michael Yang anew from allegations he was engaged in the drug trade.

Duterte did this a day after dismissed Col. Eduardo Acierto accused the chief executive, his aide Bong Go, former Philippine National Police chief Ronald dela Rosa and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency chief Aaron Aquino of protecting Yang.

“I can vouch for him because he was in Davao way back in 1988,” Duterte said in Iloilo.

In previous speeches, Duterte slammed Acierto, who has been in hiding since October last year, after he was linked to the P6.4-billion shabu shipment that slipped through the Bureau of Customs.

Acierto had been earlier dismissed from the police service for his role in the sale of AK-47 rifles to New People’s Army rebels.

Duterte also linked Acierto to the killing of businessman Jee Ick Joo last year, but the authorities said there was no basis for this.
