(Eagle News)– President Rodrigo Duterte fulfilled his promise to the wounded soldiers when he dined with them on Monday in Malacañang.
After a courtesy call with Organization for Industrial, Spiritual, and Cultural Advancement, Duterte immediately met with injured soldiers.
The soldiers first met Duterte up close when he visited the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ Medical Center (AFPMC) in V. Luna Avenue, Quezon City last August, and vowed to invite them to the Palace.
Aside from a good meal, they received assuring words from Duterte, as well as promises and gifts.
President Duterte insisted in his speech that the military would get his full support during his rule.
“I have high respect [for] you, I will be in the presidency to protect you,” Duterte said.
The President guaranteed that he would not leave the soldiers and their families. He added that the government would also shoulder their children’s education from kindergarten to college.
Each injured soldier received a Glock 30 pistol, which was joked upon by Duterte. According to him, he chose the model number because it sounds like his shortened last name “Du30”.
Blinded Second Lieutenant Jerome Jacuba and another wounded soldier received a laptop that they requested.
Army Corporal Ralph Divino, was granted an electric wheelchair.
Jacuba in his speech thanked Duterte for his support and encouragement despite of what happened to them.
