(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday, June 7, graced the inauguration of the Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) Terminal 2.

“I am extra proud to be a citizen of this country and most proud to be a worker of government and it has produced something very beautiful and good for the people,” he said in his speech during the inauguration of the terminal  the government touted as the world’s “first resort airport.”

The 65,500-square-meter MCIA Terminal 2 designed by Hong Kong-based Integrated Design Associates (IDA) and local designers Budji Layug, Royal Pinda, and Kenneth Cobonpue from Cebu will “cater to inbound and outbound international flights and is expected to increase passenger capacity to 12.5 million yearly,” the Presidential Communications Operations Office said.

The President said he hopes the airport personnel will refrain from opening luggage of incoming passengers, “unless there is proof there is something wrong.”

“But you have to apologize after. ‘Sorry for the inconvenience,'” Duterte said.
