(Eagle News)—President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday, March 8, said he would not support the legalization of marijuana.
The President’s statement ran counter to his previous statements of support for the drug, which he then said was already an “ingredient of modern medicine.”
In his speech at a PDP-Laban campaign rally in Victorias City, Negros Occidental, Duterte said he does “not intend to legalize it” at least “not in my time.”
“Ayaw ko. Gawain mo lang excuse ‘yan eh. Magtatanim ka ng iyo. Sabihin mo, ‘Medicinal man kaya ‘to,'” he said.
The House of Representatives has approved a bill that would allow the sale of marijuana for use of patients.
The Senate, however, has yet to come up with its version.
