Duterte on Robredo: “I don’t think she can ever be ready to govern a country” because of “incompetence”

(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday, July 10, said Vice President Leni Robredo will never be ready to lead the country.

“Siya, I don’t think she can ever be ready to govern a country. Reason? Incompetence,” he said.

The President made the comment after  Robredo said she was willing to lead the opposition against Duterte provided certain concerns be addressed.

These concerns include the completion of the opposition’s slate for the 2019 elections by September, among others.

According to Duterte, he will therefore “not resign because it will make her president.”

“My resignation is addressed to the people para makapili sila ng gusto nila,” Duterte said.

The President has said he was “willing to cut (his) term to be co-terminus with the start of transition period” to federalism, Presidential Harry Roque said.

“I instructed (the) Consultative Committee to elect a transitional President,” Roque quoted the President as saying.

Duterte appointed Robredo as housing czar, but she was later ordered to “desist” from attending Cabinet meetings.

She later resigned.
