(Eagle News) — The Philippines is a “transshipment point” for illegal drugs being transported to the United States.
President Rodrigo Duterte said it was the “Bamboo Triad,” a crime syndicate based in Taiwan, that made the Philippines its “client state.”
He said the 14K group from Hongkong also had drug operations in the country.
Both criminal syndicates have “taken over” Southeast Asia, he said.
“Today, the drug problem is all throughout the world,” he said.
As such, he said it “behooves” upon the US to “work closely with the Republic of the Philippines especially on this serious matter.”
As for him, he said he would do what he could “within the bounds of the law” to protect the country from drugs, a promise he made even before he became president.
“(But) I will not tolerate people shooting children, yung nakatali,” he said.
“Go out. Enforce the law against all…Kung sinalvage mo, ibang storya na yan,” he said.
