Duterte recalls then-presidential bet Roxas managing traffic in QC; says former Interior secretary should have been a traffic aide instead

(Eagle News)–President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday, March 8, said former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas should have been a traffic aide instead.

Duterte made the comment as he recalled how Roxas, who is running for a seat in the Senate in the upcoming May elections, “was managing traffic.”

He was apparently referring to then-presidential candidate Roxas managing congestion caused by the 2009 State of the Nation Address of then-President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on Commonwealth Ave. in Quezon City.

“Oy Roxas, if that is the only thing that you are capable of doing, you should have worked as a traffic aide instead,” Duterte said.

Roxas eventually announced his withdrawal from the presidential race in 2010 to give way to the bid of then-Senator Benigno Aquino III.

He instead ran for vice president and became Aquino’s running mate.

In 2016, he ran again for the highest post of the country, this time against Duterte, now-Senator Grace Poe, the late Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago and Jejomar Binay.

Duterte said that when he ran for president in 2016,  he did not have money.

“I didn’t even have a TV advertisement during the presidential debates. During the intermission, there were advertisements,” he said.
