(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday said someone should be held accountable for the Malampaya fund gas mess.
“Alam mo ang malas ng Pilipinas? Ewan ko, Diyos lang ang makasagot nito. Ang Indonesia, may oil. Brunei, may oil. Ang Malaysia, may oil. Tayo, wala. Kokonti lang gas natin [Malampaya] kinurakot,” he said in a speech in Camp General Adriano Hernandez, Dingle, Iloilo.
He said “somebody has to account for the loss” of funds.
“Kailangan talaga may managot diyan…‘Yung sa akin pwede ako magpasensya, pero kung utang mo sa Pilipino—lahat ngayon bayad,” he added.
Several individuals have been indicted in connection with the diversion of around P900 million from the Malampaya fun to alleged pork barrel scam queen’s 12 non-government organizations.
Among those indicted for graft and malversation were Napoles, former Budget secretary and now-Camarines Sur Representative Rolando Andaya Jr. and former Agrarian Reform secretary Nasser Pangandaman.
