(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday ordered newly installed Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Rey Guerrero to destroy all recovered firearms from Marawi.
“May I just insert something, I will now request the chief of staff, General Guerrero, to supervise the destruction of all arms whether high-powered or hand guns,” Duterte said during the change of command ceremonies in Camp Aguinaldo.
He said the act was “to show that we are also able to meet the challenges of terrorism and violence.”
In an ambush interview, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said the President was referring to around 1,000 firearms.
“Kung hindi naman natin kailangan, bakit natin itatago?” he said.
