(Eagle News)—President Rodrigo Duterte will appoint “in the next few days” an undersecretary who will supervise the citizens’ complaint hotline 8888.
Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea made the revelation as he announced government plans to create another office that will monitor the public’s complaints, and to incorporate a text messaging system to the current setup in an interview over dzmm radio.
“Talagang tututukan na yan because dati, it was under an office of a director..,” Medialdea said.
Only recently, Duterte threatened to shut down PLDT if it did not add trunklines to the hotline, which he established via Executive Order No. 6 upon his assumption of office in 2016.
PLDT, in response, vowed to do as the President requested.
Duterte had said he wanted to institutionalize the hotline to guard against corruption and inefficiency in government.
