(Eagle News)—President Rodrigo Duterte on Sunday, April 28, threatened to dump Canada’s trash to Canadian shores if the North American country does not take it back by next week.
The President made the remark during opening ceremonies of the Palarong Pambansa in Davao.
“Sabihin ko sa, sabihin mo sa kanila i-karga ko ‘yan next week. ‘Pag hindi niyo tinanggap ‘yang basura ninyo, ibubuhos ko ‘yan doon sa magandang beach ninyo,” Duterte said.
On Tuesday, Duterte said Canada risked war if it did not take back the trash shipped to the country six years ago and which continue languishing in ports.
The Canadian embassy responded by saying it was working toward a “timely resolution” to the matter.
It said a technical working group had been formed to discuss the relevant issues.
But the Palace slammed Canada’s statement as vague, saying the country should take back its trash “pronto” or seventy years of diplomatic relations would be “put to naught.”
