Duterte to fire another gov’t official; President says a usec next

(Eagle News)—President Rodrigo Duterte is slated to fire another government official.

Duterte made the announcement in a speech in Sofitel on Thursday, April 5.

“I’ll be firing about one undersecretary, one after the other. Ubusin ko talaga ‘yan,” he said.

The President did not give any reason for the looming dismissal of the official, but in his speech, he railed against corruption  and how activities of this nature were still being practised  in government.

“I have said, I’m not perfect. I cannot even compare my term with President Arroyo and I refuse to make comparisons with Aquino… But at least, itong promise ko, ginagawa ko. Corruption, I’m fighting,” he said.

President Duterte is known to fire officials or make them “graciously exit” instead for being engaged in corruption, among others.

He fired then-Interior Secretary Mike Sueno over an allegedly anomalous firetruck deal, and reportedly asked Peter Lavina to resign as National Irrigation Authority administrator amid rumors he had accepted bribes from contractors, among others.
