(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte ordered on Wednesday, June 20, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) personnel to stop extorting money from tourists, particularly Korean and Chinese nationals.
“Pagka na-istampan na kasi ‘yang [passport], admitted to the country for so many days, […] they are always bugged by Immigration and police, and that has to stop,” Duterte said in his speech in Cabanatuan, Iloilo.
He threatened to send BI personnel approaching any of the tourists in the guise they would be questioned on their stay or on the validity of their papers to Jolo, Sulu.
He also assured the public that he would act on complaints sent to the President’s Hotline, 8888.
“Basta ino-oppress kayo ng taga-gobyerno, you can always find sanctuary,’yang 8888 na ‘yan,” he said.
“I do not want oppression during my term lalo na sa gobyerno,” he added.
