(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte urged Congress and the public to craft a new Constitution that he says “will suit” the Filipino way of life, and where taxpayers’ money is assured to go back to the people.
At the same time, he vowed to resign once this is done.
“Let’s have a Constitution that is inclusive,” he said during the anti-corruption summit of the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City.
He said what was lacking at present was a sense of accountability, as people were no longer afraid of the law.
“Personally, I believe in retribution. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth,” he said.
He said “when (the new Constitution) is done this year, I will resign at the end of the year.”
He said it doesn’t matter what mechanism would be used for the crafting of the new Constitution.
“As long as we come up with a Constitution that guarantees that the money will go to the people,” he said.
