(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday, May 4, vowed to increase the salaries of public school teachers next.

The President, however, admitted that it wouldn’t be “as doubled,” noting what he said were the government’s lack of resources for this.

The President earlier doubled the salaries of uniformed personnel.

Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno has warned against raising the salaries abruptly of public school teachers at this time, but added that they were still covered by the salary standardization law that increases their salaries.

The last tranche of increase will be implemented in 2019.

“Remember, your pay will improve, honest, wait for it, but it will be incremental. It cannot be done at once, you are too many. You will have five times more or seven times more than soldiers,” President Duterte said.
