Duterte vows to protect businesses “as long as they obey” PHL laws

(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday, Aug. 1, vowed to protect businesses in the country.

“Today, I send a message to the rest of the business community — this government will protect you and your investments and will ensure a level playing field for you to thrive in as long as you obey the laws of the land and safeguard the welfare of your people and general public,” Duterte said in his speech at the 30th anniversary celebration of Toyota Motor Philippines.

He then lauded the Japanese company, saying it was “a major driver of our economy, encouraging investments that spur national development.”

“I am delighted to know that your initiatives that uplift the lives of our underprivileged countrymen are in line with my administration’s focus on eradicating illegal drugs, criminality and corruption in order to encourage business to grow,” he said of the company’s corporate social responsibility programs.
