(Eagle News) — “Guerrero,” Eagle Broadcasting Corporation’s first full-length film, won in the prestigious Madrid International Film Festival on Saturday, July 28, bagging the “Best Editing of a Foreign Language Film” award.
This is the first international award of this EBC Film entry.
Guerrero’s Giancarlo Escamillas and director Carlo Ortega Cuevas bested 14 other entries nominated for the “Best Editing of a Foreign Language Film”category including another Filipino film, “Bhoy Intsik” directed by veteran film director Joel Lamangan and edited by John Anthony L. Wong, that won the Best Editing award in the Foreign Language category of the 2018 Nice International Film Festival of World Cinema, held in France last May.
The other nominees in the category are: “Bad Poetry Tokyo” (Anshul Chauhan) from Japan; “Crush My Heart” (Lisa Geretschläger) from Austria; “Dad Where Are You I Am Lost” (Aziz Imamoglu) from Turkey; “I’m a Fairy” (Nitesh Rathod) from India; “Kafou”
(Bruno Mourral) from Haiti; “Lemon & Letter” “Takeshi Iwamoto) from Japan; “Million Loves in Me” (Chean Hoong Loo & Chee Chong Mak) from Malaysia; “One Hour To Daylight” (Pamella Ang) from Singapore; “Raktham” or The Blood (Zashi Qmer) from India; “Reevolution” (David Sousa Moreau) from Spain; Somewhere in Tonga” (Till Ufer) from Germany; “The Usuke Boys” (Akira Kamiya) from Japan; and “Tinted” (Kim Jun-he) from Korea.
The film entries which won awards were announced on the final day, July 28, of the one-week film screening of all the entries for the Madrid International Film Festival.
Kazutaka Watanabe, a Japanese film producer interviewed by Eagle News at the Madrid filmfest, noted how Philippine independent films were gaining recognition worldwide.
“I think it’s a wonderful thing that you guys are here,” he said.
EBC Films’ entry Guerrero had earlier won in the 2018 Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) Star Awards, bagging the Movie Child Performer of the Year for the performance of its child star, Julio Cesar Sabenorio in February this year.
It was also nominated for the same category, “Best Editing of a Foreign Language Film” at the 2018 Nice International Film Festival of World Cinema, held in France last May.
The Madrid International Film Festival is an international film event that celebrate film making while bringing together film makers and other personalities in the business of film making.
It aims to promote cinematographic art by presenting films of quality and entertainment.
