MELBOURNE, Australia — Melbourne is a city that is well known for its spasmodic and often extreme weather conditions. Any local will tell you that on a bad day, one can experience all four seasons!
From a freezing morning to a hot afternoon with a side of alternating rain and shine, and a sprinkle of wild winds, Melbourne’s weather is certainly an interesting and unique phenomenon that sets it apart from other Australian cities.
The first of September is the official beginning of springtime in Australia, however Victoria steadfastly held on to the wintry chill with days often peaking at 12 to 15 degrees Celsius. Now, halfway through the month, the cold is finally breaking, giving way to beautifully sunny days and coaxing out the springtime blooms.
Spring manifests in Melbourne through the vast array of flora. Even the urban jungle of the Melbourne CBD is bestrewn plentifully with tall trees, flowering bushes and blankets of grass. The city becomes alive with colour as Melbournians are finally able to shed the thick winter layers and showcase the bold fashion that the city is famous for.
Additionally, this is usually the most temperate time of the year and is the best time to visit Melbourne. From exciting festivals and outdoor eateries, well-renowned beaches, beautiful botanical gardens, hidden-treasure specialty coffee shops, and even the bright nightlife – there is surely no lack of attractions to visit and activities to partake in in the relaxing spring weather.
