GENEVA, Aug. 19 (PNA/ITAR-TASS) — The World Health Organization (WHO) on Monday urged the authorities in countries affected by the Ebola outbreak to screen people departing at international airports, seaports and major border crossing and stop those with symptoms of the virus from leaving.
“Affected countries are requested to conduct exit screening of all persons at international airports, seaports and major land crossings, for unexplained febrile illness consistent with potential Ebola infection. Any person with an illness consistent with EVD (Ebola Virus Disease) should not be allowed to travel unless the travel is part of an appropriate medical evacuation,” the UN health agency said.
On August 8, WHO declared the Ebola outbreak in West Africa a public health emergency of international concern.
WHO said that as of August 13 the disease had left 1,145 people dead and 2,127 infected in Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria.(PNA/ITAR-TASS)
