EDCA won’t be affected by pull-out of US soldiers in Mindanao

QUEZON City, Philippines – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) leadership is confident that the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement will not be affected by President Rodrigo Duterte’s order that soldiers of the United States of America should pull-out from Mindanao.

The EDCA, which falls within the scope of the Visiting Forces Agreement, allows US troops access to identified Philippine military facilities, as well as the right to construct facilities, and pre-position equipment, aircraft and vessels.

But the EDCA does not allow US to establish permanent bases in the Philippines as it would be a violation of the Philippine Constitution.
