Senator JV Ejercito on Tuesday defended Senator Sherwin Gatchalian after he came under fire for responding with expletives to a netizen who had called him a traditional politician.

“In the incident involving my Co-Seatmate Sen. @stgatchalian, goes to show that we are also human, we get hurt & affected too,” Ejercito said in a tweet.

He said “what is scary is if we public servants become immune from bashing & attacks from rabid haters.”

“Then we become insensitive & are like political robots,” he said.

In a tweet on January 1, Gatchalian said the “nation lost its soul in the last six years,” apparently referring to the administration of former President Benigno Aquino III.

One netizen responded by calling him a “trapo.”

“Gag* ka!,” Gatchalian responded.

While admitting it was he who responded, the senator no longer elaborated.
