Ejercito: Recent killings of mayors could be intended to “shame” gov’t

(Eagle News) — For Senator JV Ejercito, the two recent killings of mayors, if proven to be connected, were “probably intended to shame the government.”

“I’m a little bit alarmed kasi two days dalawang mayors,” he told reporters, referring to the slays of Tanauan, Batangas Mayor Antonio Halili and General Tinio, Nueva Ecija Mayor Ferdinand Bote.

Halili was shot as he was presiding over the city’s flag-raising ceremony on Monday, July 2.

A day later, Bote was shot as he was leaving the National Irrigation Administration premises in Cabanatuan on board a Toyota Fortuner.

Ejercito said, however, that he hoped he was wrong.

“Pero kung mapapatunayan na iisa ang gumawa nito at konektado, it’s probably intended to shame the government,” he said.
