Escudero: Diokno at helm of BSP will “ensure stability, continuity” of PHL fiscal gains

(Eagle News) — Senator Francis Escudero on Tuesday, March 5, lauded President Rodrigo Duterte’s appointment of Benjamin Diokno at the helm of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.

“This will certainly ensure the stability and continuity of the country’s fiscal policies gains,” Escudero, who is the chair of the Senate Committee on Banks and Financial Intermediaries, said.

According to Escudero, Diokno’s appointment to the post was a “promotion given that he will now be responsible for the monetary policy and financial system of the country.”

He said the BSP governor, after all, sits as chair of the Monetary Board “and his appointment is for a fixed term which means he will serve beyond President Rodrigo Duterte’s term.”

“I would like to commend the President for appointing Secretary Diokno as the new BSP Governor,” Escudero said.

Diokno will serve the remainder of Nestor Espenilla’s six-year term at the BSP.

Espenilla succumbed to tongue cancer in February.
