Escudero: Sotto has very good chance of retaining Senate presidency

(Eagle News) — For Senator Francis Escudero, Senator Tito Sotto has a very good chance of retaining the Senate presidency.

In an interview over ANC, Escudero said this was because Sotto “enjoys the support of the majority of senators who will remain and also the support of the majority of senators who got reelected, if not all of them.”

Fourteen senators signed the resolution drafted by Senator Panfilo Lacson that was aimed at determining how many support Sotto as Senate President.

Senator Cynthia Villar, however, was among those who did not sign the manifestation of support, saying she would rather wait for Senators-elect Imee Marcos and Pia Cayetano, her partymates.

It was Marcos who said there was a push for Villar to be the next Senate president.

“The last thing the administration of President Duterte would want is a split Senate,” Escudero added.
