(Eagle News) — A former mayor of Marawi City was “invited for questioning” on Friday afternoon, April 12, over his alleged involvement in the Marawi siege, but was released later on.
Former Marawi City mayor Omar Solitario Ali was approached by the military after attending a PDP-Laban sortie in Marawi City.
He was brought to the 103rd Infantry Brigade merely for questioning, according to Col. Romeo Brawner, commander of the 103rd IB.
He was arrested after stepping out of the Dimaporo Gymnasium where the PDP-Laban event was held. He was then brought to the headquarters of the 103rd Infantry Brigade.
Brawner said Ali went peacefully with the authorities.
He said that it was the Judge Advocate General of the Armed Forces of the Philippines which was building up a case against the former mayor.
Running under the People’s Consultative party, Ali is one of nine candidates for mayor of Marawi City in the 2019 elections.
