The massive blast in the mall on Hurontario St. in Mississauga took place at 7:30 a.m., and blew windows on other buildings that ended up collapsing.

A family of three, including a child,  was rescued from the roof of a  structure, and was sent to a hospital.

Dozens of residents were evacuated  to nearby hotels with a contingency for them to stay longer or until it is safe for them to return to their apartments or homes.

The school nearby was closed  to ensure everyone’s safety.

A number of retailers and other businesses were also closed today, as authorities checked for structural damage and integrity.

Investigations by the Ontario Fire Marshal started today and will be ongoing for several days so as to determine the root cause of the explosion.
